Screw Machine Operator/Set-Up

SUMMARY: Perform precision set-ups and operate Escomatic Swiss style CNC screw machines and internally developed polygon cutting machines. This individual will prepare and sharpen tooling for equipment (including precision grinding of cutters on an Ewag grinder). They are expected to inspect parts produced and adjust, sharpen or replace tools and offsets as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform part specific set-ups required for high volume production machining from set-up sheets, verbal or written instructions.
- Review blueprint or work order for production specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be machined, and tooling instructions such as cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts and cutting tools to be used in machining of components.
- Position and secure specified collets, bushings, etc. used in feeding mechanism
- Install and adjust specified cams, gears and stops to control tool movement.
- Start machine, observe operation and inspect first run and samples to ensure machining conforms to specifications.
- Operate production machines as required by production plan.
- Replace worn cutters and operate precision grinder to sharpen worn cutters.
- Follow Quality Plan to ensure integrity of product produced.
- Perform required inspections at specified intervals.
- Perform general machine maintenance as required.
- Complete production logs as required.
- Package product as specified in written instructions.
- Notify Supervisor immediately upon discovering non-conforming product.
- Notify Supervisor immediately of any noticed machine problems.
- Perform general housekeeping of the manufacturing area.
- Provide ongoing input to supervisor/management for potential improvements.
- Participate in all semi-annual and “cycle count” inventories.
- Attendance is an essential function of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS: The individual must possess the following qualifications:
- Possess good communication skills.
- Results oriented by nature, focused on providing prompt, accurate solutions.
- The ability to understand/interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
- The ability to use precision tools, machine tools and measurement equipment.
- The ability to understand the structure of drawings created by common design (i.e. CAD, CAM, etc.)
- The ability to optimize process with the intent of improving through-put.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience on precision grinding/cutting machines, CNC turning of small parts with tight tolerances (±0.0001”), experience using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, microscopes, gage blocks/pins, optical comparators, etc.)
- Ideally, the individual possesses a technical/manufacturing oriented education (preferably with CAM programming as part of the education experience). Multiple years of applicable CAM experience in industry is a bonus as well as a firm understanding of G-Code and/or other programming languages.
- Good mathematical skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Good command of the English language is required, as well as ability to communicate (written and verbal) with all levels of the Company and Customer personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The ability to lift packages up to 50lb.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is a typical high-precision production/metal fabrication environment with all of the associated equipment and resources.
