Manufacturing Engineer/ Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor

 

(Hampton, NH)

SUMMARY: This position is the liaison between the Engineering department and Production. They are a logical data driven decision maker with excellent mechanical skills and a willingness to be hands on with the equipment. The individual will manage the interactions between product and processes/equipment in a production environment consisting of high speed assembly equipment, machining, heat treatment and cleaning as well as outside plating operations. They will work with Product Engineering to revise product designs and propose/implement equipment and/or process changes to improve manufacturability. They will introduce new internally designed or externally purchased equipment into the Operation via the Design Control Procedure. This includes developing a full understanding the operation and maintenance of the equipment, developing work instructions and training documents and training operators and Maintenance Mechanics on its use and upkeep. They will be the engineering department’s first point of contact for troubleshooting production issues. They will work with Product Engineering to address quality issues caused by process or equipment as well as research and develop new processes for production. Their strong mechanical abilities will be necessary in understanding the intricacies of small high speed assembly mechanisms and supporting the daily operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following, but other duties may be assigned;

  • Work with Product Engineering regarding DMR's of existing product components/assemblies
  • Examine evidence as well as design experiments to logically diagnose process and assembly problems
  • Recommend and implement process changes based on data and testing for both internal and external processes
  • Coordinate the production of samples for new products
  • Provide input to Product Engineering for manufacturability of product
  • Create/Maintain Work Instructions for all assembly equipment
  • Create/Maintain Preventative Maintenance procedures for equipment
  • Transition all new equipment from Engineering to Production by managing a formal qualification process.
  • Communicate testing results to suppliers and internal resources regarding product/processes
  • Participate in ISO 9001 internal audits
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude along with an understanding of basic electronics
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Logical data driven decision making
  • Sound understanding of test principles and practices. Ability to design experiments.
  • Able to understand and create engineering drawings and technical documents
  • The ability to use precision measurement tools, machine tools and laboratory equipment.
  • Any necessary skills required to design and build test apparatus and prototypes, as needed.
  • The ability to use common software in design and fabrication of new products (i.e. CAD, CAM, Analysis, SPC, etc.)
  • The ability to use common software for documentation and communication purposes, (i.e. Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide direct supervision to the Maintenance Mechanics, along with training, periodic reviews, discipline, and interviews, on an as needed basis.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering/ with a minimum of 4 years related experience.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office, laboratory and shop are typical of the work place. Some travel may be required in specific circumstances. This position require full-time onsite presence.
